Alcatraz

We took the train into SF yesterday for a day in the city. We first walked from the CalTrain station up 4th to Market Street and then down to China Town. SF has one of the world's biggest China Towns and there were certainly times when you could have been in China instead of the USA. We stopped for breakfast just above pier 39 before heading for pier 33 to catch a ferry to Alcatraz. The 'Rock' was awesome - so close to the city but absolutely cut off. We both took an audio tour which was very well done before walking the 1/3rd mile back to the boat.

The rest of the afternoon was spent walking back up Market Street looking in shops. We passed the Coit Tower, sampled and American McDonalds (same as the UK in every way), went to the Apple Store and even found a Vans store (although they had very few shoes in). We finally made it back to the train station just before the rain set in properly. Great day with the only downside being that I realised I have lost my phone :(
